Novelis and Jaguar Land Rover develop new aluminium alloy

Novelis has brought a newly developed alloy onto the market for the automotive industry, with up to 75 per cent recycled content.

The RC5754 alloy is particularly suitable for the manufacture of structural components in high-volume production in the area of body construction. The alloy was developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover and represents a central element of the REALCAR (REcycled ALuminium CAR) project. RC5754 was used for the first time in the new Jaguar XE and will be used in future in all existing and new Jaguar Land Rover models.
The REALCAR programme instituted in 2008 by JLR is a multi-stakeholder initiative established to develop a closed production loop for vehicle construction in which vehicles can be recycled at the end of their product life cycle and fed back into production again. The RC5754 aluminium alloy developed by Novelis specifically for the REALCAR programme is designed to contain a large amount of recycled material, so that even more processed aluminium can be absorbed from the vehicle scrapping process than has ever been possible before.
