Developing lightweight chassis parts for new transportation system

GF Automotive, a division of GF, is developing lightweight chassis parts for a new transportation system capable of transporting passengers and freight in pods at speeds of up to 1200km/h.

The work is part of Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk’s Hyperloop concept. SpaceX has launched a global competition for universities intended to drive forward the development of the technology. The Swissloop Team of the ETH Zurich is also taking part.

As a main sponsor, GF Automotive supports the team in developing and manufacturing a lightweight aluminium component of the pod’s chassis. In August of 2017, an expert jury assembled by SpaceX will decide who will gain admission to the testing circuit in California. More information on the project is available at www.gfau.com

GF Automotive is a technologically pioneering development partner and manufacturer of lightweight cast components and systems made of ductile aluminium, magnesium and iron for the automotive industry as well as for the global industrial and consumer goods markets. The division’s highly complex lightweight components contribute to making modern vehicles significantly lighter and reduce CO2 emissions. GF Automotive operates eleven production plants in Germany, Austria, China and the US.
