Organised by the Cast Metals Federation with support from Foundry Training Trust, Cranfield University and event sponsors and exhibitors, CASTcon brings together the UK foundry industry to network and engage on a one-to-one level. Along with a full programme of plenary presentations followed by specific subject related parallel sessions, CASTcon 2025 will also feature several expert panel sessions to discuss topics of relevance to the global foundry industry.
There will be two sessions on the timely topic of raw materials considering the prospect of increased demands for metals and materials, changes in the availability of critical minerals and supply chains as well as tariffs, carbon reporting (CBAM) and the move to more circularity of steel and aluminium.
‘Future Materials – the trends in supply and quality of raw materials used by the foundry industry’ will feature Nadine Bloxsome, CEO at ALFED; Jon Harrison, head, regulatory affairs at UK Steel; Mike Smith, from the copper sector industry and Nick Horsley, of Minerals Products Association, (UK).
‘How the industry further increases the re-use and reclamation of used foundry sand’ will feature Sam Garner, Omega Sinto Foundry Machinery Ltd; Richard Heath from CMF, plus Ian Humphreys from International Synergies Limited and Dr Lorraine Ferris from the Henry Royce Institute.
The full programme over the two days of CASTcon also includes a wide range of talks on technical and commercial topics relevant to the industry, including supply chain opportunities and global industry trends as well as simulation, automation, process improvements, health and safety, and energy and resource efficiency.
EVENING SESSION – 15th April
On 15th April, the eve of the full day programme there will be a keynote address by Prof John Erkoyuncu of Cranfield University on ‘Digital skills and AI in manufacturing’, following which delegates can participate in an open panel discussion on ‘the benefits of casting as a fundamental yet innovative manufacturing process’, underpinning most other industry sectors, and a key part of the circular economy for metals. The panel of experts will be discussing some of the threats and opportunities from the transition to net zero (including CBAM and fuel switching), MAM and automation with delegates and considering how the industry can better promote itself as part of the solution for growth and sustainability in the UK.
EXHIBITION
The exhibition at CASTcon was ‘sold out’ some weeks ago, with several CMF member companies and non-members taking advantage of the chance to showcase their services and materials at the event. The following pages highlight just some of those taking part.
CASTcon offers an ideal opportunity to meet up with industry experts, catch up with colleagues from across the industry and hear about new developments from all levels of the supply chain.
