A new era for a well-respected company

It is with great regret that Ridsdale & Co Ltd announces their withdrawal, at the end of 2020, from involvement in the manufacture and supply of sand testing equipment to foundry laboratories. The significant decline in the market for such equipment which has occurred in recent years has continued, such that the business is now no longer a viable one. However, the timing of Ridsdale & Co’s withdrawal, has been determined by the fact that Brian Clarke and his secretary Susan Sidgwick are both to retire at the end of 2020, after 60 years’ and 20 years’ service to the company respectively.

Managing director Richard Meeres said: “Praise in particular must be made to Brian Clarke who has developed, maintained and calibrated the sand testing equipment for the very large part of the time since Ridsdale & Co started to manufacture under licence to H W Dietert in 1935, and later to become UK agents for Georg Fischer/DISA sand testing equipment.”

Ridsdale & Co Ltd will still continue to operate its contract analysis operation (they are accredited to ISO 17025 for this activity) for the foreseeable future, but very much regret they will not be able to provide technical support for sand testing equipment functions after the end of 2020.

Meeres said: “The company has been proud to serve the foundry industry for 85 years but must now bow to the passage of time.

“On a happier note, Ridsdale’s Associates, Pattinson & Stead (2005) Ltd and Bureau of Analysed Samples Ltd continue to thrive, particularly in their involvement in the preparation and certification of certified reference materials for the foundry and general metallurgical industry, a service which has performed strongly even during these troubled pandemic times.” www.basrid.co.uk
